This is an exceptionally nice condition example of a rare German 7.92mm

machine gun round.  The red sealant around the primer indicates that it is

armor piercing.  The green stripe on the bullet means that it is an improved

or high velocity round.  The high velocity rounds were made to improve the

performance of aircraft machine guns.  Normally you find the high velocity

rounds that are tracer but these are not.  The hla code has been identified

as Metallwarenfabrik Treuenbrietzen GmbH, Sebaldushof plant.  The date

is 1941 and it is lot 13.  The S* means that it is a brass case.  The head stamp

only identifies information about the case itself and not about who assembled

the components into a complete round.  We do know that the high velocity

rounds used a tubular power in place of the standard flake power.  I have a

limited number of these rounds, all the same head stamp and approximately

the same condition as the round shown.  I have a large collection of 7.92 German

ammo in boxes and I don't have one example of this round in a box so I believe

it is rather rare.
