This is a dual purpose holster for the P.38 and P.08 that has always been attributed to post-war production.  This example has "clg44" and a waffenamt code of E/B66 stamped on the back.  The maker was Ernst Melzig, Liegnitz .  Liegnitz is located in Poland.  The holster is a "Russian capture" and it makes sense that the Russians would have captured the plant.  The body, closure flap, side flap, closure strap and luger tool pouch are all made of pigskin.  The rest is made of cowhide.  The entire holster has been pebble grained.  You can see that black dye seeped through the bristle holes in the pigskin and stained the inside in little spots.

Is it possible that, very late war, there was a need for additional P.08 holsters since they basically hadn't been made since 1942 but the P.08 was still in service?  So, to simplify the production of P.08 and P.38 holsters, they started making the dual purpose holster prior to the end of the war. This is, of course, is going to be controversial.

The last picture is a comparison to a Browning High Power holster that is made by the same maker.  The stamps are not exactly the same but there are some definite style similarities.  If this is a fake, it is scary.
