An example of the difficult to find byf42.  According to documentation, only 700 byf42 marked P.38s were accepted by the German military in 1942.  The remainder of the byf42 marked slides were accepted as completed pistols in 1943.  The serial numbers of the "700" are not known.  We do know that there was a high rejection rate among the initial production so the highest serial number of the "700" could easily have been well into the thousands.

This example is serial number 4453.  Not likely one of the "700" but it's possible.  Early byf42s are known for having E/135 stamped small parts.  This example has one such part, the takedown lever.  The paint for the safety marking was apparently removed by overly vigorous cleaning.

Correct grips and mag complete this pistol as being totally correct.  This pistol was reportedly brought back from Europe by a pilot but he did not capture the gun.
