A commercial machete that is identical to the Collins produced machetes

that were issued starting during the Spanish-American war.  The collector

I bought this from told me that when the U.S. first entered the war, there was

an immediate need for machetes.  They initially procured commercially

produced machetes until they could get U.S. military produced examples.

This is unmarked except for the tooling on the leather scabbard.
