An ac45 "c" block with a matched frame, slide and barrel. The locking block is unnumbered.  As you can see, this gun only has the initial slide inspection so it was either completely assembled or the major components were together in preparation for assembly.  It either had not been test fired or had been test fired but hadn't had the firing proof applied yet.  The trigger and the hammer are in the "white".  It has a definite "blue" blue as opposed to the early ac45s that had a rather "black" blue.  This gun came back in the box that is shown.  According to Buxton, the box was intended for a  military produced P.38 as the P.38 was a military designation.  It has a HP serial number written on the end so that complicates things.  I believe the workers or GIs placed their guns in these boxes, which were also still in the plant.  I darkened the closeup picture of the box top so the markings would show up better.
