A long side rail sniper made by J. P. Sauer & Sohn in 1944.  Sauer developed the long side rail scope mounting system but, because they were a somewhat small firm, they were not able to produce these rifles in the quantity that the Heer wanted.  So, a second contract was let to Gusloff Werke who produced many more than Sauer.  According to some statistics that appeared in the old KCN publication, there are about eight Gustloff long side rails reported for every Sauer.

These rifles have a special enlarged receiver because some of the left side of the receiver had to be milled off to attach the flat long side rail mount.   Milling of a standard receiver would have weakened it.

As you can see this rifle is about as good as it can be in unissued condition.  I've taken a lot of pictures of this one.
