A "Red 9" Broomhandle Mauser. This is a late commercial example that was made after the military contract
for these pistols was cancelled due to the end of WWI. These are interesting guns in that Mauser was
using up rejected/reworked parts from the military contract. They could get away with more in the commercial
market.
The left receiver flat where the serial number is placed has been milled to remove the
old number. If you look closely, you can see the ghost markings from the old serial number. You can
also see how the left flat extends further forward and to the right than would be normal. The bolt on
this one has apparently had some rework also. These characteristics are typical of the serial number
range.
This example is all matching and has a matching numbered oak stock and correct dated leather.
A beautiful, original example with all the accessories that would be very difficult to upgrade.
