ac40 added serial number 1228a.  

This is an example of what happened right after the Germans switched the Walther code from 480 to ac.  The code was centered (top to bottom) on the slide.  Then, the Germans decided they had to have a date on the guns.  So, all the ac coded guns that were still accessable had a "40" pantographed or etched below the ac code.

This example shows a lot of blue wear.  The magazine does not match but is a very nice correct armorers replacement ac coded mag with a E/359 stamped on the spine.  Other than the mag, the gun is totally matching including the very nice grips.

This example also has the firing proof stamp on the right side of the slide stamped upside down which you don't see very often.
