SS contract bnz43 rifle manufactured by Steyr.  This variation has the SSZZA4 stamp on the left side of the barrel and the death's head on the underside of the stock.  Very few parts are number stamped but most of the parts are electro-pencil etched with the serial number.  Notice that most of the normal Heer inspection stamps are not found on this rifle.  Only initial part inspection stamps can be seen.

The stock on this example was sprayed with a mahogony colored laquer and several parts that are normally in the white have been painted black.  I have no idea who did this but it is very old work and appears to be original to the time period.  This could have been a honor guard or special parade rifle.
