This is an interesting byf44 dual tone. It falls in about the middle of the last full letter
block of Mauser production. There was apparently some problem with the gun as
it only has the first inspection (waffenamt) stamp on the right side of the slide. That
stamp was the one applied when the slide was inspected as a separate part. The gun
did not get the firing proof or final inspection stamps. The problem may have been the
barrel since there has been some unusual metal working done just behind the sight band.
It has an earlier P.38 (no v) E/135 marked mag which is somewhat hard to find. There
is an abrasion to the rear area of the right grip that can be seen in the picture. A very
interesting sub variation of the dual tone production in excellent condition.
