Here are pictures of 4 different P.38 lanyards.

  In the picture below, the top two are what I believe to be the earlier style and slightly different in width.

  The lower two are later and were made in 1942 and also different in width.

 

 

Same maker and year but the top example is wider than the bottom one.

 

The two earlier types with P.38 stamped in two different places.

  The top one is stamped on the portion of the buckle leather that is stitched to the webbed material.

The bottom one is stamped on top of the leather loop and has a wider buckle.

 

These are the two made in 1942.  The P.38 is stamped on the leather that is stitched to the webbed material.
