A police issue P.38 made by Mauser in late 1943.  Production of this variation is about 1,000.  All of these examples are marked with an E/L on the right side of the slide and with a commercial nitro proof (E/N) on the left side of the slide.  On this example, parts that were initially inspected by the military were diverted for use as police guns.  This was typical.  This example has no lanyard loop and, from examining the holes for the loop, I don't believe it ever had one.  There were special police marked holsters issued with these.
