There has been discussion about the German's etching parts. I recalled that the waffenamts on the sears
of some of my earlier Walthers were etched.
In looking through my Walthers, I found that my
ac40 through my ac41 third variation all have the waffenamts etched onto the sears. Earlier and later,
my examples have stamped waffenamts. My ac41 third had been etched twice so I took magnified pictures
of it. It looks like the 359 did not take the first time so they did it again but a little higher.
After examining the pictures I realized that the sears were not etched but done with a rotary cutting
tool and, I am guessing, a pantograph was used. The cutting pattern in the wings is so consistent it
makes me wonder if they had a machine that did it. If not, the individual that did this was, indeed,
an expert.
The third picture is of the waffenamt on a "horseshoe" or experimental sear.
