Audie Leon Murphy

Audie Leon Murphy was the most decorated WWII US soldier.  He was born

into a meager existence in North Texas near the town of Kingston.  After his

Father abandoned the family, Audie became the major bread winner to support

his Mother and siblings.  When WWII broke out, Audie tried to enlist in the

Marines and Paratroopers but he was turned down because of his small stature

and child like appearance.  He was finally accepted by the Army and went on

to perform deeds in combat that still stand today as some of the most heroic

ever known.

Post war he was recruited to make movies and had a reasonably successful

career.  He was tragically killed in a plane crash in Virginia in 1971.
